Getting To Eat Out With The Folks ~ San Gabriel Cafe' & The Outer Clove

The folks take us for walks along the canals here in Phoenix and 2 Sundays in a row, after our nice long walk they've stopped to have a bite at the San Gabriel Mexican Cafe'. Mommy was all happy 'cuz they were in time for happy hour. Strange to me that she needs a restaurant to tell her when to be happy. Anyway, we like this cafe' very much because we don't have to stay in the car or at home while the folks eat out. We can't go inside (something to do with health regulations) but we can stay on the sidewalk.
Here are Hootie and I outside the "outdoor seating" at the yummy San Gabriel Mexican Cafe'.

This sign on the outside wall says Corona Street, but it was really 16th Street. Silly bi-peds don't even know where they are!!

Now, if you look very closely you can see my eye peeking through the railing. You see, there are yummy homemade corn chips on the table and Mommy would slip some to Hootie & me because we were so well behaved. She also gave us regular dog treats, but the chips were our favorite.

Here is Mommy slipping us some chips. Good Mommy.

Boy does that look good Dad. Sure wish you'd slip me some of that burrito! Notice Daddy is drinking a soda pop. He didn't want to be as happy as Mommy was I guess.
Almost forgot the best part. Mom ordered a caramel flan to share but forgot she didn't like flan (if you can imagine that!). SO, we got to share most of it with Daddy. Yum! It sure was happy hour!!

Now I am taking you to a whole other country in these last 4 photos. They are from last summer when we all went to Canada. Remember the ferry ride we got to take? Well, after we got off the ferry and before we went to the Ainesworth Hot Springs, we went to Nelson to one of our favorite eateries the Outer Clove. It is a garlic restaurant with garlic in everything on the menu, including the dessert. (Similar to the Stinking Rose in San Francisco, but not near as fancy.) Of course, we had to stay outside there too.

There was a funky import shop next door so we got to help greet all the shoppers. Hootie left some pee mail on the tree/sidewalk so Mommy had to dump a few glasses on water on it to make it go away...Uptight much Ma??

There's cool as a moose Daddy with the waitress.

That waitress was really nice. She told us that there was some kind of weird law in the city of Nelson, BC, Canada that says "No Dogs On Sidewalks". But that law was written a long time ago when the town was flooded with Hippies. The Hippies all each had a dog and the local merchants really didn't mind the dogs so much, but really didn't want the Hippies loitering around, so made the law. Well, Nelson doesn't have any Hippies anymore (does anyone?) but they never took the law off the books. She said lots of people tie their pooches up to the tree or railings and no one seems to care. The police station was just a few steps away up the street so our mommy felt her paranoia justified. I was surprised she didn't grab a scrub brush to clean up Hootie's pee mail!

Well friends, that's the end of our restaurant hop. Hope you enjoyed it. We know that Asta goes out to eat all the time with her folks. Does anyone else have any food trips to tell us about? Would love to hear about them.
Smooches,
Baby Rocket Dog

Thanks for your sponsorship. It will take me a few days to get the sponsors all organized as I am focused on keeping the contestants in line right now.

It all looks good and all the food getting slipped through the railings to you. Ah rubbing out pee-mail how could your mom do that. John and Pip were hippies so they would not be allowed in Nelson. Mind hippies have to have hair, so Johns hippie days are well over. Two hairs and a nit does not a hippy make. Hope your mum had a happy Happy hour. HIC!

Wish our Mum's favorite Mexican restaurant had a place for us to hang out. We know she'd slip us a chip or two! You are soooo lucky!

Yummy food and great company! Who could ask for more?

I think all eateries should have an area where critters are welcome. Wouldn't that be fun?

Very interesting post. There have been a couple of times here in Scotland when I have been tied up outside a tea shop and the staff have invited me inside 'cos I'm so cute! And there are quite a few pubs that serve food and also let dogs inside. People in Scotland are not too strict about dogs - I think we have it lucky on the whole. On the downside, the weather is rarely warm enough for anyone to want to eat outside, even at the height of summer. And then there are the midges....
Cheers, H.

You guys are lucky! We've never eaten in places like that!
Other than our picnics on Nantucket, we pretty much make mom and dad go to drive-ins and eat in the car with us! Mom says she really doesn't mind because this way, we can all have a treat out!

Love ya lots,

Ciao BRD and Hootie!

I love your peeky-eye fotografia, Baby -- you are just adorable!!!No wonder your mama slipped chippies (mmmmmmmm...chippies) to you!

There are two restaurants here where doggies are allowed to sit at the outdoor tables with their owners, but I've yet to find one where I, Lucia, would be invited indoors to sit at a fancy table with silverware and china. It is so unjust! Harrrumphhh! BTW, la mia ragazza has been in love with Nelson since she saw the movie, "Roxanne," which she found out was filmed there. It looks like such a pretty place (and so dog friendly...!!!)-- no wonder your mama and papa like visiting there!

Tanti baci!

You guys are so lucky. We sometimes get a white box brought home, but never in all of their wildest dreams would Mom and Dad take all of us out to dinner.

The only food trips I get to go on are to the drive through!! I'd make such a fuss out on the sidewalk, separated from all the fun - mom would sure get kicked out no matter how "happy" everyone was!! Glad to hear they slipped you some foodables through the bars! Loved how your little eye was poking into most of the pictures!!

Baby RD & Hootie - believe it or not, there was no monster at the other end of the leash. Abbie just goes bonkers as soon as you put it on her. She does it the entire time she is on her walkies! Maybe she'll grow out of it!

Hi I'm McGillicutty, an Irish Terrier, and I go with my Mom and Dad to eat Mediterranean all the time! My fave? Falalfel. Another falalfel, please? My Mom says they are not good for me though and limits me to one tiny bite- a tiny bit of heaven! Hey! Visit and follow my blog and tell others! Lacie and Stan andScruff do! www.themcgillinator.blogspot.com

Scruffy, Lacie and Stanley's Place said...

Oh that MsGillicutty has been here...he is the MOST handsome Irish terrier...no, Hootie, I haven't gone on a date with him yet...PLEASE don't warn him about my reputation...it would be nice to go out with a dog without him expecting the worst of me or wanting a bracelet that sez "I survived my date with Lacie." Sheeshch...I think I've been very repectful lately....

Do you know WE'VE NEVER BEEN OUT TO EAT EVER? Well, when I was a small pup I did get an ice cream cone once...that was after Mumsie and Daddy put me in a canoe and I fell in the river and it was horrible...(Honestly, Hootie...this is Mumsie...she had a lifejacket on and she JUMPED in the stoopid river...we hauled her right back in...took some time gettin' her butt back over the side of the canoe...) but that's been the extent of my gourmet dining...you dogs are soooooo lucky...

Kisses...speakin' of dinner, we want our kibble...

Flirty barks,

Seems like you enjoyed the happy hour too Baby and Hootie. Your Mom is nice slipping you the chips and letting you eat the pudding she doesn't like. bet she did that on purpose for you. Can I borrow her?

Now I do go out to eat too. In fact I went last weekend but Mom forgot the camera, boy on boy she was maddddd. I'll make sure she takes it next time.

As for the hippies. Yeah man. We see 'em now and then. Though it might be better if we didn't!

Peace and love, Eric xxxx

Peees. Mom is still dithering over some very important shopping. I'll nip her ankles!

You've got the best of eateries in BOTH worlds! We've never eaten real food at real restaurants. Only ice cream and bits of drive-through food when we're on our road-trips. We're not complaining, but it does look like a lot of fun. We'll be doing some research to find some places where WE can stay with our people.

And, on another note ... didn't you have a birthday today? Was it the greatest??? Or are we making this all up?

Whatever, however. We hope today was GREAT!
